Life Sciences Centre, UBC

The Life Science Centre is a training hospital located at UBC and was one of the largest Canadian building project starts of 2003. Rissling was involved from the basement up on this project. We provided all of the off site and on site services, road works and hard surface landscaping including structural landscaping components (retaining walls, stairs & wheelchair ramps). Services included extensive steam and condensate, water main installation, gas, street lighting, telecommunications, power system, storm and sanitary sewer installation. We also provided site grading and backfilling of the building.
Total Project: $4,000,000+

Rissling was involved in this new building construction from beginning to end providing demolition services, storm system construction to a depth of 7meters, sanitary sewer servicing, and new steam manholes complete with new steam and condensate piping in a concrete trench. We relocated all of the power and communication duct banks and manholes around the new building foot print. New water main construction and gas installation was part of the project as well.
Total Project: $615,000

UBC Condensate replacement

This project is part of a large energy saving program implemented at UBC. The project allows hot condensate to return to the Power House to be reheated and turned back into steam. This is a much more energy efficient program than heating cold water. Over the past two years Rissling has been involved in the replacement of all of the condensate system on campus that was in non working condition. The project reached all areas of the campus and was over two kilometers of new construction, often in difficult and congested areas.
Total Project: $2,300,000+

Irving K Barber Library, UBC

The Irving K. Barber Library has been renovated and reconstructed over the past two years. Rissling has provided a full service civil package on this project ranging from extensive asbestos abatement on a abandoned steam system and providing a major new steam and condensate system complete with manholes and concrete trenches. We also completed all of the services, power and communications, water, storm and sanitary sewers, and site grading and preparation for soft and hard landscaping installation. This was a challenging site due to existing services and constant redesigning due to changing site conditions.
Total project: $500,000.00

Burnco Rock Products, Burnaby B.C.

Rissling was involved in a fast paced project to service a new concrete plant for Burnco Rock Products in South Burnaby. We provided a comprehensive civil package that included entire cast in place sediment ponds for the plant. New incoming power and communications ducts and manholes, water, gas, sanitary system including a pump station. As this project was adjacent to the Fraser River, a large component of the project was a storm system designed to eliminate contaminates from reaching the river.
Total Project: $500,000.00
